A young girl who joined Night Chains on Margiela's referral. Masaki originally fell short of the age requirement for full-time staff at Night Chains, but with Goethe's strong recommendation and support, this special girl was granted the title of "part-timer". Today, this lovely and courteous girl can often be seen weaving through the various facilities of the Night Chains Land, offering help to visitors with a warm smile. Everyone's spirits lift at the sight of Masaki's sweet smile — who can deny that this is the most wonderful kind of magic?

Shortly after the abduction incident at the Night Chains Land came to a close, Masaki signed a part-time employment contract with Night Chains. Not long afterward, she arrived aboard the Eternal alongside Margiela, where she introduced herself to everyone as a newly joined crew member.
"My name is Masaki. Whether you knew me before or not, I hope you'll all... address me by this name. What's more, I am a 'witch', and also a part-timer for Night Chains..."
Her cheeks flushed pink after finishing such a lengthy self-introduction, Masaki smiled bashfully to herself. Margiela, who had been listening at her side with her chin resting on one hand, patted her shoulder and smiled as she led everyone in a round of applause — a small welcome ceremony for the "Witch."
For Masaki herself, nothing could have brought her greater joy. Everyone was willing to accept her for all that she was: Masaki the girl, the part-time working student, and the Witch. Though the mystery of her identity that had troubled her for years had already been unraveled, the warm welcome she received aboard the Eternal undoubtedly gently brushed away the faint remaining shadows that had lingered over it.
Masaki grew up in a warm, happy family and lived a fulfilling life, and it was only natural that such an upbringing shaped her into a brave and courteous young person. At the same time, her past as the "Witch" has granted her far richer knowledge and life experience than her peers. Yet sometimes, these fine qualities can also become a source of awkwardness —
"Ms. Margiela..."
"There you go again with that weird formal way of addressing me?"
"Ah— no, I mean, M-Margiela!"
On top of that, Masaki is an extremely well-liked girl aboard the Eternal. Her sensible, thoughtful nature leads many crew members to treat her as a younger sister and a junior. When they learned she was the fearsome "Witch" they had heard of, most could scarcely believe it. Having a witch under their care felt like a rather novel and precious experience.
"So, which age are you really right now? Your student age, or the age of that centuries-old witch?"
"W-well... let's just say both apply..."
From a very young age, Masaki developed an interest in cooking through various food-themed TV programs. At first, her parents worried it was unsafe for a child so young to handle kitchen utensils, so they strictly restricted her from accessing open flames, kitchen knives and other dangerous items in the kitchen. Undiscouraged by this limitation, Masaki explored all kinds of play cooking sets with great enthusiasm, and found plenty of joy chopping plastic toy carrots.
The real problem arose on the very first day her parents permitted her to enter the kitchen. Her mom and dad accompanied her to the supermarket to buy her favorite vegetables and meat, then taught her how to use a kitchen knife. But the moment her mother stood by her side and turned on the stove flame, an inexplicable surge of resistance completely took hold of Masaki. She screamed and jumped back from the stove, and even her parents' reassurance failed to calm her down... It was a long time before she gradually regained her composure. After this incident, her parents were no longer willing to let Masaki near open flames casually. And for a long time afterward, Masaki's nightmares recurred frequently: she would dream of the Witch's cottage burning down, and the villages she passed through reduced to scorched earth...
Fortunately, modern society always offers multiple solutions to any given problem. After a while, her parents introduced Masaki to a cooking appliance that works without any open flame — the induction cooker!
Now, as Masaki prepares lunch bentos for herself and the Conductor aboard the Eternal, she has grown into a remarkably capable little chef. Sometimes, she even shares her cooking tips and thoughts with other crew members.
Born into an ordinary yet happy family, Masaki was an enviable child.
Born into a ███ yet ███ world, Betty was a ███████ child.
From the very first day she discovered her Ascension Ability, Masaki pondered endlessly: Why had any of this come to pass? Could she use this power to help more people? And why was she bestowed with such an ability in the first place?
From the very first day she was reviled for her immense magic power, Betty lived in constant terror: Why had any of this come to pass? Why must she suffer harm for the magic within her? And why was she cursed with this power?
— Centuries slipped by after that.
Betty woke from her dreams to find she had become Masaki. Unlike her past self, Masaki grew up in a peaceful city, had a loving family to rely on, and never had to scrape by or fight for survival. A soft little bed sat in her room, hot soup cooked by her father waited on the dining table, her mother would iron her new dresses, and photo booth stickers from shopping trips with friends were stuck to the corner of her desk.
It hardly seemed like a bad thing, to live a happy life in this world forever... Yet nightmares still came for her every night. The memories of being "Betty" hounded her ceaselessly, like ghosts of hatred from a bygone past. As Masaki grew older, every year that passed drew her nearer to that desperate, fated end...
Before that end could befall her, one witch crossed paths with another. And then, they reached out to each other.
This is the story of how Betty the Witch gained her liberation. It is also the story of how Masaki came to accept her very first friend — and the final, truest version of herself.
Hello. I haven't properly introduced myself yet. My name is Kamishiro Masaki. The "Witch"? She's here with me too. But I'd prefer you call me by my current name. Mm... just call me Masaki.
Got it. Can I do my homework here?
I can do other things once I finish my homework. Would you like me to make you a simple meal, Conductor?
I'm reading the Almanac of Unidentified Mysterious Animals. It documents traces left by unknown or unexplained creatures spotted across different regions over a period of time. Would you like to take a look? Nyx? It's not a UMA, you know...
My school bag is stuffed with all sorts of things, so it feels a little heavy to carry... but it's all to be better prepared for any unexpected situations.
Hello? ...Mm-hmm, I've already eaten! Yeah... but I'm still working right now. I'll call you back later, okay? Mm! Alright... bye~ — Ah, Conductor! That was my parents on the phone just now!
I have two jobs at the moment, but everyone in Night Chains and the Eternal crew takes such good care of me that I don't really feel tired... If there's anything you need me to do, just tell me directly.
I used to have so many dreams when I was little... Those dreams were actually the Witch's memories. There were a lot of frightening things in them, but there were also beautiful, happy moments. I'm grateful that she used to preserved all of it so completely.
Would you like me to tell you about UMAs? Of course. Out of all the unexplained beings besides yetis, lake monsters and bigfoot — the most famous one, and the only one ever recorded in the Mundus Empire, is without a doubt the "dragon"!
Hungry, Conductor? I brought some snacks... help yourself. If you don't like plain seaweed, I have spicy flavored ones too. Ah... Nyx, that's not for you, don't bite it...
I still remember everything the Witch went through. It can be painful at times, but it was never a punishment. Whenever I think about that, I feel like she, from long ago, has passed her courage on to the me of today.
I want to become a UMA researcher in the future. I have to keep working hard toward that goal... This is the dream of the new me, the person I am right now.
Everyone has things they want to run from, things they don't want to face, right? Sometimes I can push through them, and sometimes I can't... Like how I occasionally get so absorbed in reading that I forget to do my homework...
I used to be so afraid of growing up, because every year older felt like getting closer to that terrible ending in my dreams... But now, I'm not afraid anymore. Thank you for staying by my side and facing all of this with me, Conductor.
Just take it in stride...
It's okay, I can still run...
Huff, huff... P-please, wait for me...
Behold the power of the Witch!
Go, Nyx!
I'm a little tired...
I'm sorry, I think I...
Thank you for the praise. A certificate? No... Conductor. I'm not a kid who needs awards to show off anymore. But... I'll accept it, as long as it makes you happy.
