Leader of the little adventure party, a girl who takes on leadership responsibility, but seems the youngest among the group, looking only twelve or thirteen. She speaks in an unusually mature tone and carries herself like an experienced traveler and has the unquestioned trust of her party members. She always wears a fluffy white outfit regardless of the season, and somehow it neither gets dirty nor needs frequent changing. Sometimes, Arcana speaks in the tone reminiscent of an elderly, perhaps as a result of the strong influence of her elders?

Arcana has a great fondness for, or rather is used to, taking care of others. No matter if someone has gotten injured in her humble adventure team or if she encounters people who need help while traveling on the train, she will always go forward to lend a hand without a second thought. In addition, the knowledge she has is also especially comprehensive, ranging from common healing magic powers of the Empire to making cough syrup from ordinary herbs.
Perhaps just like the idea of "what's good for you may not always be easy to swallow," the medicine Arcana prescribes is usually highly effective, albeit incredibly bitter. Whenever a child complains that the medicine is too nasty, Arcana will find candy or any snack that can take the edge off the bitterness and coax them into finishing the medicine in exchange for a sweet reward.
However, youngsters like the conductor, who's constantly hard at work, would hardly ever fall for that. Arcana generally doesn't stop anyone from working, but she will solemnly remind them not to overtax themselves, for health should always take precedence.
"Be not thou like some valiant champion. Worn out with toil, she slumbereth by the wayside, till a mighty eagle beareth her away unto its nest... What I tell thee is no feigned tale; this did verily come to pass."
As such, when Arcana sees someone who's showing signs of overexhaustion, she'll force them to take a rest, though there, of course, wouldn't be any bird bigger than Cook on the train.
The children whom Arcana took care of all love her and frequently pester her to tell them stories, to which she never once refuses. Just like the bedtime stories often told to children, her story always begins with, "Once upon a time..."
However, the stories she narrates are enriched with a tinge of extra realism compared with those written in fairy tales. No other books have ever described how the blood that drips from a slaughtered dragon isn't red, nor do they bring up how the champion has to trek down a particular hill barefoot after accidentally losing one shoe during the journey.
Had she not personally witnessed these scenes, how could she possibly know these details? Could she have lived in the era where dragons and champions existed?
"...If that hero is still alive, she should still be living somewhere now," is typically how her story ends.
Can heroes from hundreds of years ago truly still be freely and blissfully living somewhere? Arcana's stories never fail to fascinate and offer a sense of security. Her listeners are willing to believe that if the people in the stories are immortal, they'll certainly keep living an ordinary life inconspicuously after completing such an awe-inspiring adventure.
If you're looking to learn more about the Empire's lore, Arcana is the perfect person to turn to. Of course, if it's merely general knowledge of the Empire that you need, Livia will be able to answer your questions. In fact, there are several appropriate people on the train to inquire about the living conditions of various people in the Empire. Yet, only Arcana can acutely connect the dots between different matters, then trace them back to specific folklore from hundreds of years ago and tell you about its origin.
She also has all sorts of knowledge, a significant part of which is pretty beneficial in real life. There's nothing that can stump her about the Empire, like their traditional agriculture, medical knowledge, and the tons of recipes for different food... If you look at it in another way, a place more suitable for her is probably a hut in a border village of the Empire than on the Eternal, which is continuously on the move.
After some time of adapting and research, Arcana has already mastered the skill of using natural ground materials to make food and medicine. Although she regularly grumbles about how "these substances upon the ground are sorely scant of mana," she still manages to serve exceptionally tasty food each time. Even the dining carriage transforms into a wonderful, magical place whenever she stands on the footstool to work with pots and pans by the stove.
Once upon a time, under the brilliant light of the Wishing Tower, a young woman gave birth to a child upon paying homage to the tower.
As the child grew up, people noticed that her skin was marked with an amazing pattern and that she had exceedingly great powers, so much so that monsters adored her. They wouldn't attack her and would instead become her friend.
Despite countless years going by, the girl still looked like a child. She left her hometown and went on a journey, even changing her name, but her physical appearance remained unchanged. It was one thing that was constant in spite of the uncountable adventures she had gone on and the numerous friends she lost to the natural cycle of life. Undoubtedly, she was regarded as abnormal, and that thoroughly devastated her.
Even though she went on to meet a new friend, the forlorn child still cried unceasingly, as she knew that her new friend would eventually die before she did, too. To her shock, this friend held her hand and requested one thing from her: Don't be trapped by the misery of immortality. Please be happy in your future journeys.
The forlorn child agreed. From then on, she vanished from the public eye without anyone ever knowing where she had gone.
"If yon child hath not perished, she ought yet to dwell in some hidden place even now."
My name is Arcana. Naught but a wanderer who roams the wide world.
What wouldst thou of me? Thou art past all patience with me... Heigh-ho, let us begone.
Oh, is it the conductor? Come hither. These new-arrived local dainties look full savoury; take a share of them.
Hark thee, conductor! Youth must eat well. Chew thy meat slowly, and spurn no victual.
When duty calls for hands to stir, I shall be the first to answer. Life, alack, craveth a touch of thrill now and then.
Phew... the heat doth vex the spirit sorely. Cast off more raiment, sayst thou? Nay, the matter is not so lightly mended...
Long sitting shall rack thy loins and back. Come, lie thou yonder; let me ease thy aches.
Young one! Thy locks are all dishevelled — thy folk will mock thee. Draw nigh, and I will comb thy hair aright.
Phew... young one... At every sight of thee, my heart standeth in dread. So rash are all young folk, alack.
What ails thee? Have Doodoo and the rest plagued thee once more? I shall chide them soundly; let not anger dwell within thy breast.
Though my flesh knoweth endless life and decay hath no hold on me, my heart yet grieves at parting. An immortal frame is no blessing, trust me.
To tarry in one place is to weave bonds that none may break. Wherefore I choose the endless road, rather than abide in a single spot.
Bite not thy grief back when sorrow weigheth on thee. I shall hold all thy tears, and pardon every frailty of thine. Peace now, dear one; all is well.
Art thou curious of my tales of adventure? Too long they be for a young one’s bedtime lore. It seemeth I must stay beside thee till the last word is told.
I shall bear you company through this venture.
Stand aside, ye young ones.
These years of mine have not been spent in vain.
My! Is this all the spirit thou hast, young one?
To scorn the "young" may cost thee thy life, take heed!
Alas! I let my guard slip... I shall take my leave ere long!
My, I have overreached myself. Too heedless I was, indeed.
Now seest thou how age outwits youth? To win the title of MVP is but a trivial task for me.
